• This teaching resource explains the work of Dr Ying Gao, assistant professor from Nantong University, Xinglin College, in China and currently based at Jackson State University in the US, who is investigating how course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) can transform the learning experience and encourage students to think like real scientists.
• This resource also contains an interview with Ying, providing an insight into careers in education research.
• The activity sheet provides ‘talking points’ (based on Bloom’s Taxonomy) to prompt students to reflect on Ying’s research, and tasks them to design their own CURE.
