HUGE Resource Bundle - Bindi - Kirli Saunders - Student Workbook - Task Cards

This is a 65+ page resource bundle based on the beautiful Australian book “Bindi” by Kirli Saunders.

Bindi is an engaging, exciting story, told through the eyes of Bindi, an 11-year-old First Nations Person. Bindi shares her culture and insight with us as her community prepares for, and lives through, the biggest bushfire they’ve ever seen.

This book was selected to be a mentor text to teach the Stage Two NESA Unit (12): Imagery, Symbol and Connotation. The resources are designed both to provoke deep thinking about the text, but also to be completely independent. The only prep you need to do is printing or uploading to google classroom or a similar platform.

This bundle of resources consists of:

• a section-by-section (4-5 chapters long) comprehension guide. This guide has two pages of comprehension questions for each section, focusing on a range of skills , such as literal and inferential understanding, text-to-self connections, author purpose, cause and effect and much much more. All up, this is 54 pages of independent comprehension work.

• creative responses for every section, linked to the text. These creative responses give the student a writing stimulus. Students write passages in free verse, just like Kirli Saunders, to complete an anthology of poems about their life. These can be published and illustrated as a keepsake.

• an answer section for every question of the comprehension guide, perfect for feedback and assessing.

• a set of ten full-colour literacy centre task cards based on the text. These include a range of Creative and Practical Arts integrated tasks, as well as informative, imaginative and persuasive writing prompts.

• all associated printables linked to the task cards, which can be used for a range of literature. These are a set of high-interest, high-choice worksheets.

• a persuasive writing assessment stimulus, presented in the form of a writing prompt. This is a printable booklet which requires students to research and write their opinion.

This set of resources is weeks of learning, covering reading, writing and speaking and listening.

This book would be suitable for a whole class read-aloud, or as a reading group text for Stage Two or Stage Three students.
