Factors and Multiples
Key Stage: 2 ★★

You can place the cards on any number that is a factor or number of that number. How many lines can you find?

This problem will help children become more familiar with factors and multiples. Moreover, a systematic approach is required in order to find all the lines. It will encourage learners to talk to each other, and it provides a good context in which to discuss different methods of approach. It has lots of scope for being opened out and extended through 'what if ...?' questions.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

Another resource to get children in upper KS2 thinking. Also, with a bit of thought, this could be edited to include other examples.
