Odd and Even Numbers
Key Stage: 2 ★

Can you arrange the numbers 1 to 9 in the grid so that every adjacent pair have an odd difference? What about an even difference?

This problem encourages pupils to form early stages of proof by using their knowledge of odd and even numbers to construct mathematical arguments. It is a good context for generalisations.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

A very useful resource for extending those in maths...this challenge gets children to think about number sequence, differences and patterns. Suitable for KS2 children. Thanks for sharing.
