I really like these 'I Can' statements as a basis for levelling - but there is a snag even with this excellent collection. Where is the incentive for developing a creative, imaginative or spiritual response to religious issues or the great questions? We need levels that motivate our pupils to explore silence, reflection, wonder, spirituality, depth of thought and so on. You can probably think of lots more aspects of RE that these levels and other levelling systems miss out on - but are vitally important in our subject.
