An activity to recognise, use and explore Pythagorean triples, best done in small groups of two or three to encourage discussion and collaboration. Starting as a card sort learners practise using Pythagoras' Theorem and are encouraged to group similar triangles together (all of which are variants of Pythagorean triples). They then use ratio or proportion to answer non-calculator questions based on the same Pythagorean triples. Finally, learners practise spotting sequences and patterns within their triples and explore one or two methods of generating further Pythagorean Triples.
