Y2 writing adverbs activity adaptable

Y2 SPaG writing activity focussed on adverbs. Loosely based on Super Joe Does Not Do Cuddles but works for any unit or standalone.

Focuses on identifying adverbs then building them into sentences. Word banks of adverbs and writing prompts on sheet.

Two adaptable versions:

• One with scaffolded write
• One with more independent write + idea bank

How I used it:

• Starter activity involving acting out different actions with different adverbs
• Identifying adverbs in a story related to the unit or a standalone book & discussing how author used them for effect
• Modelling writing sentences with adverbs (in the context of the worksheet, this involves modelling a sentence showing a problem ‘There was a broken bridge.’ then showing how you saved the day ‘I quickly found wooden planks to fix it.’ Replace the adverb and think about how the meaning changes.
• Children complete worksheet
• Children share their sentences at the end.

Ideal for Y2.
Great as starter activity, main activity or SATS recap activity.
