This is a full 6-week scheme for year 7s based on the theme of identity. We used this as a platform to explore different forms of poetry each week and to look at different cultural identities- from Irish, British, Japanese to Indigenous Australian. My students were really engaged with the scheme, particularly because it allowed them to write as well as unpick poems.
Ideally, the end assessment is based on a piece of their own writing.
The Irish traditional folk tales we used were a little complex for some of our students and I would differentiate these further next time around. This scheme was aiming to develop background knowledge and skills for the AQA GCSE English Lit Paper 2- unseen poetry. Mostly we wanted students to understand AO2- poet's methods and a reader's response based on their own work as well as that of others. The scheme also promotes reading literacy.

Nothing special and certainly not worth £10.
