Understanding Your Ecological Footprint

Understanding Your Ecological Footprint

Students will investigate what an ecological footprint is by using an online activity that calculates their ecological footprint. Students will then think about what actions they can take to reduce their footprint. They’ll understand what an ecological footprint is, know how to use an online tool to calculate their own ecological footprint and be able to list actions they can take to reduce their ecological footprint.

Changing How We Use Energy

Changing How We Use Energy

In this lesson students find out which appliances in their classroom use energy and work together to create agreements for the classroom about switching off and adjusting these appliances. The lesson ends with students making informative stickers for these appliances. Students will use comprehension strategies to build literal meaning about key ideas and information in texts. They’ll be able to identify way to reduce energy use of items in class, clearly express instructions about how to use an appliance and work in groups to plan a text.

Introduction to London Zoo (presentation & activity)

Introduction to London Zoo (presentation & activity)

This set of resources is a great introduction to London Zoo. It is suitable for children in KS1 and lower KS2. The presentation first locates London Zoo within the UK and London itself. Children then find out a variety of interesting facts about the zoo. Next the activity challenges children to write a fact file about London Zoo. It is differentiated four ways: LA - cloze procedure activity (children write missing words) LMA - cloze procedure activity (children write whole sentences) UMA - children write own fact file (with sentence starters and vocab prompt) UA - children write own fact file (with vocabulary prompt) I’ve included an editable version of the activities too. Please be aware this does not display properly in the preview window! If you like this resource, please review it! I will happily send you a free resource of your choice in return for a review or useful suggestions/feedback. Please contact me at
