Materials handout

this is a visual handout to introduce the basics of materials at KS3 to coincide with the new design and technology curriculum. I use this to glue into their books so that they can use it as a point of reference. it categorizes woods, metals and plastics along with lovely visual examples of products they can be made into. I have uploaded as a pp file so that it can be adapted to suit your project. this also helps students identify the original source of the materials.

AQA Materials Technology Technical Award UNIT 2 Lesson One Props.

This is the first lesson for unit 2 of the AQA Materials Technology Technical Award. I decided to create a props task for a production company. This lesson allows students to complete a small amount of research and a draft specification so they can move on to the deeper planning required in unit 2. The lesson includes a modeled example of what students could complete for this lesson.

Design and technology match up cards - manufacturing, material finishes and key definitions

Set 1 - Material finishes (For metal) Students match definition of metal finish to the image and name. Set 2 - Students match the manufacturing image to its name and to a product that has been made by this type of manufacturing. Set 3 - Students match the keywords to the definitions. I use these sets at different times throughout the year as starters or for quick fire revision sessions.
