**** QUICK READS / WRITES ARE 40 - 60 MINUTE LESSONS THAT PACK A PUNCH! **** An exciting and engaging ‘Photographic Memory’ resource that will help support the skills needed to develop vocabulary and text recall, crucial skills for literacy development! Perfect as an ‘inspiring’ and thought provoking lesson that will enable pupils to connect with their learning in a fun way and through the medium of this fascinating subject matter! This includes: -A short, one page story with a range of questions. -A scaffolded series of tasks that will help pupils connect with the lesson’s content in a creative way. -An interesting text and relevant videos (find the link in the booklet!) that drive the lesson forward - lots of fun! -A unique descriptive writing task that provides a clear link to the lesson’s focus. The accompanying text is geared towards advanced (CEFR level C1) learners of English - See a sample below! ‘Hundreds of angry people took to the streets in London and at least ten other English cities in 2011. A stimulating and relevant ‘mini-mock’ style resource. It is particularly pertinent to AQA Paper 1, Q2/Q5: This resource also includes an array of ‘walkthrough’ tasks that aid pupil understand of the skills needed to answer this question. If you use it this way, I tend to follow this structure: #1 - Read the extract. Find out the meanings of any unfamiliar vocabulary and add these to the accompanying ‘word bank’ (10 minutes - 20 minutes) #2 - Complete the discussion tasks (S&L opportunity) and read the accompanying material (15 - 20 minutes) #3 - Annotate the extract for gothic conventions and language devices (10-15 minutes) #4 - Discuss the reading question and consider the tension graph (10 minutes) #5 - Pupils will plan their own response - Use this as an opportunity to meaningfully gauge pupil understanding (15 -20 minutes) The second ‘one sheet’ operates as a self-contained mock; it builds on the previous walkthrough material. A ‘mini-mock’ style resource that can be used for Paper 1, Q2: This is particularly useful as a ‘walkthrough’ task that helps pupils understand the skills that are needed to answer this question. If you use it this way, I tend to follow this structure: Worksheet (engages/helps pupils access the extract)- 10 minutes. Watch (Helps pupils further contextualise the extract)- 5 minutes. Read/discuss (Pupils to underline any ‘interesting’ language)- 5 minutes. Annotate (pupils to complete task #1, teacher guidance as appropriate)- 10 minutes. Read/SPAG (pupils to complete task #2, a ‘paragraph guide’ for pupils!)- 10 minutes. Own (Pupils to complete task #3, if extension is needed get pupils to continue this in their books!)- 10 minutes.
