A quick tick-list for teachers when doing practice of Part 1 (speaking cards) of the Edexcel A level speaking assessment. For class practice or termly assessments.

Some PowerPoints and accompanying worksheets (with answers) for the first few lessons of IGCSE - aimed at higher sets. This covers: places (countries) prepositions key irregular verbs weil/obwohl

A series of ‘Ferien’ worksheets that I’ve designed with cover in mind, but could easily be used as part of the main lessons or for revision. Topics covered include: Reasons for going on holiday Perfect tense Future tense

Some cover materials for Kapitel 1 plus a worksheet on Musik. Could be used as cover, or simply in as lesson materials.

A series of cover work lessons for beginner’s German, covering house types, pencil-case items, birthdays, family members and pets. Alternatively, the tasks could be used as part of your lessons. Across the worksheets, there is a range of tasks including translations, written tasks, reading comprehensions, as well as more creating tasks such as word searches and drawings (family tree, dream zoo etc.)

Some exercises with accompanying answer sheet for year 9 German grammar revision - it has been used in conjunction with Stimmt 3 to a certain extent, but would cover a range of key grammar points in a student’s third year of study. Possibly also useful for recapping key points at the start of year 10, too. Key tenses (present, perfect, imperfect, future) & reflexives, comparative forms and superlatives as well as adjective endings.

A new set of IGCSE speaking questions, based on the Edexcel specification topic areas, broken down into sub-sections. Extension (or possibly challenge) questions are highlighted in red, and a range of tenses covered, as well as the ‘warum ist es wichtig, dass…’ type questions.

Stimmt 3, Kindheit chapter Attached is a PowerPoint that explains modals in the imperfect + a translation into English (answers on PowerPoint).

A series of PowerPoints to revise key grammar and help students develop their speaking or writing answers for GCSE/IGCSE. Support for the writing exam, including an overview of the shorter writing task. Grammar practice (1st to 3rd person; adjective endings, tenses etc.)

A series of worksheets with accompanying PowerPoints to consolidate the topic of healthy living. Targeted practice of modal verbs in different tenses as well as higher level translation for extension/top set groups.

A translation into German with accompanying answer on the PowerPoint.

A PowerPoint and worksheet looking at statements that apply to life in a town or village (countryside). Activities include a translation into French, 21 reading game (whole-class reading/listening activity whereby students read 1, 2 or 3 words; anyone who has to read a word by a full stop is out). Also included is a list of speaking questions, either to be completed in class or for homework.

A few PowerPoints and worksheets to support teaching the topic of jobs, either for a higher level year 9 class in the third year of having learnt German, or for (I)GCSE. Areas covered: qualities needed for a job um…zu/wenn/modal verbs translation skills into English & German with answers on the PowerPoint. speaking questions on jobs with support structures and tips to support pupil progress/independence of learning.

This board game helps students to practise pets in German in the accusative case. The game works as follows: Students throw 3 dice simultaneously (or 1 die could be used three times). First die: student moves to the correct square. Second die: student says the subject pronoun that corresponds to the number, as shown in the box at the bottom of the board (e.g. if they roll a 1, they would say ‘ich habe’, if they roll a 2, ‘du hast’ etc.). Third die: student says the adjective ending, ensuring that they apply the correct ending based on the gender of the pet e.g. Ich habe eine kleine Maus. To help students, each square is colour-coded to match gender i.e. blue - masculine; red - feminine; green - neuter. There are a few squares that mean students have to go back to the start or miss a go. Students could decide in groups what happens if they make an error e.g. Ich habe EINEN klein Katze’, such as missing a go or moving back 3 squares.

Several PowerPoints and a worksheet focusing on the ‘Vorbild’ concept within Kapitel 1 of Stimmt 3. The PowerPoints cover adjectives, adverbs, opinions, justifications using a range of higher level subordinate clauses and comparisons. Contemporary photos to support. In lesson 4 (PowerPoint), slide 6, run the slide, and students have to provide the translation for each square - these can be clicked (either by teacher using the mouse, or students can come to board and use a pen) and they disappear, square by square - revealing part of an image ;opportunity to bring in some cultural discussion. Also included is a translation task based on a variety of future tense expressions, based on pp.16-17

A PowerPoint with questions on a range of topic areas plus supporting structures. This resource was designed to fit around Edexcel IGCSE, but can easily be adapted. When the PowerPoint is run, a continuous loop starts. Use the back arrow to stop at a random slide - to start again, use the forward arrow.

Pupils to identify whether the statements belong to an eco-warrior or something who is indifferent to the environment. Accompanying PPT with answers.
