A 59 slide presentation comprised of 5 lessons analysing 'Propping Up the Line'. The extract used is available to download for free on e-AQA Secure Materials, KS3 Test Packs - Year 9 Pack 2. The lessons cover the skills needed to approach questions 1-3 on the new AQA GCSE English Language Paper 1, Section A exam. The lessons have been designed with a lower ability Key Stage Four group in mind and clearly spell out the different steps for success needed for the first three questions. These lessons would also be suitable to use at Key Stage Three or as a transition/revision resource. Each lesson is fully resourced with clear learning objectives, a range of activities and opportunities for self and peer assessment. A 50 slide presentation of 4 lessons designed to introduce and consolidate approaches to the unseen poetry section of the English Literature exam. The lessons link to the new AQA specification but could easily be adapted to suit other specifications. Each lesson contains a wide variety of activities including individual and group work, assessment opportunities and model answers. Lesson 1 - introduction to unseen poetry working through an analysis of 'Hard Frost' by Andrew John Young. Lesson 2 - unseen analysis of 'Nettles' by Vernon Scannell. Lesson 3 - unseen analysis of 'In the Orchard After Midnight' by Brian Patten focusing on mood and tone. Lesson 4 - introduction to comparing unseen poems for the final question on Paper 2 of the English Literature exam. Lessons 3 and 4 can be used in conjunction with the AQA unseen poetry resource booklet which can be found on the AQA website. I have only included the first stanza of each poem due to copyright reasons but have included clear links as to where you can access the rest of the poem within the presentation.

The exam paper is available on eAQA and the extract is taken from ‘A Sound of Thunder’ by Ray Bradbury. You can find the extract if you simply google ‘A Sound of Thunder’. The presentation includes clear learning objectives for each lesson, a number of learning activities and opportunities for self and peer assessment. Clear guidance is given for each question and model answers are also provided. Differentiation to extend and support students is also incorporated into the lesson presentation. Clear links are made to the markscheme and assessment objectives throughout. Could be used to walk students through the paper as they complete it or as a follow up and feedback lesson once students have completed the paper.
