A powerpoint which works through planning, writing and checking a piece of descriptive writing. Originally devised to help prepare for GCSE English language Controlled Assessments for WJEC, this could easily be adapted for any descriptive writing task. Activities include looking at vocabulary choice, structuring writing, descriptive techniques etc. Planning sheet included.

A booklet aimed at getting Y9 to understand the characters and plot of Macbeth through a homework project from over a school holiday/series of weeks. Booklet includes a storyboard of Macbeth where the plot has been provided, but learners have to add the pictures. It also has a page which shows all the main characters (for them to draw pictures) and a blank front cover for them to design a suitable cover. Also included is a landscape version of the storyboard with comprehension questions at the end of Act Two, Four and Five.

A planning sheet for narrative writing initially aimed at GCSE English Language Paper 1 section B (WJEC but easily adaptable to any narrative writing task. This contains activities for developing plot structure and extending vocabulary.

A group work and creative writing lesson based on the idea of investigating the paranormal activities reported at Lorraine Castle (The Red Room by H.G. Wells). Using the Mantle of the Expert, learners play the parts of paranormal investigators and work in teams to explore and report back on the different areas of the castle. This builds towards a creative writing piece where each individual is parted from their team by a complication and they retell the story of what happens next. This was developed and used as a very successful lesson observation. Pack includes lesson plan, power point and all resources. Lesson can be further supplemented by the addition of props from each area of the castle - I can't supply those though!

A scheme of work developed as part of the cross-curricular Forgotten Soldiers project looking at individuals from different cultures and religions who fought for the Allies during WW1 and 2. Two units of work are included: one looks at WW1 poetry as part of a creative writing task on the theme of 'Boots'; the other focuses on key individuals aiming to build awareness of the contributions of people from other ethnic groups towards the war effort.

Power point presentations with a writing task for Years 7, 8, and 9 with the opportunity for learners to respond to peer assessment built in. These were originally devised as part of a drive to show that learners were responding to feedback and evidencing this in their books. The tasks are similar but contain references to the different criteria for the Literacy Numeracy Framework (LNF) in Wales.

A complete scheme of work for Divided City by Theresa Breslin comprising of reference to assessment objectives, a medium term plan, 24 lesson plans, a range of assessments including reading, writing and speaking and listening, with accompanying power points and worksheets. The main focus of the unit is RAF7: social, historical and cultural contexts.

A booklet of independent projects aimed at preparing Year 9 for the transition into Year 10 and starting their GCSEs in English. The original idea was to issue this to Year 9 learners for use in option subjects which they would not be continuing with into Year 10, therefore projects are designed to be independently completed but checked by English teachers/form tutors, etc. There are seven projects in total: Independent Reading, Narratives, Poetry, Drama, Non-Fiction, Media and Skills and each one includes both reading and writing tasks.

A power point preparing learners to plan and write a piece of transactional writing for GCSE English Language Controlled Assessments (WJEC). The task was to write a report into the facilities that are available to teenagers in the local area. Activities include planning, features of reports, punctuation, etc.

A booklet with a range of reading activities based on aspects of historical and social contexts of Macbeth. Activities develop reading skills while providing contextual information including James I, witchcraft and the Gunpowder Plot. At the end of the booklet is a reading assessment in the style of the new GCSE exams (WJEC).

A power point and accompanying resources aimed at preparing KS3 learners for the National Reading Tests (Wales). Activities include a focused look at the types of question that appear on the tests, and how to answer them (with a matching leaflet for parents or learners) and lessons focused on the key skills of information retrieval and inference and deduction with worksheets.

A calendar (generic dates for easy re-use) with a different literacy focus for each month. Each month has a different focus with examples and a space for different curriculum areas to add their own subject specific example or usage. An ideal way to promote literacy across the curriculum ensuring consistency while showing that literacy is applicable to all subjects.

A comprehensive resource for learners taking GCSE English language with WJEC. Booklet includes a learning style quiz with suggested revision activities for each style, practice exam questions with self-assessment resources, SSPS activities and other useful hints and tips for GCSE success.

A power point and accompanying booklet aimed at developing writing for a range of non-fiction purposes including information, explanation, instruction, recount, persuasion and argument. Activities include reading examples and identifying features of the different purposes, planning own writing with a range of tasks to choose from, independent writing, peer assessment and improvement all with a football theme. Booklet was created using Microsoft Publisher but, following some feedback, I have also adapted it into a Word document for anyone without Publisher.
