It can be used as and excellent visual aid for a maths meeting wall designed to recap and revise on all the addition, subtraction, division and multiplication taught. There are also opportunities for number bonds, doubling, solving varied fractions, part- part whole number problems and adding multiples of 10 to any number. This resource can also be used as a mental oral starter or as morning work to evidence mental calculations for the expected mastery standards. Suitable for year 2 curriculum in maths and supports evidence for moderations.

This is a comprehensive list of words with contractions that can be used for classroom display. They in large print and categorised into word families for easy identification around the classroom. This is a useful display for children as they are no longer allowed to be given too much spelling support from the teacher. There are a couple of poems to embed the contracted words that children could use to learn poetry for pleasure. I have found this a invaluable aid to teach spelling to reach the expected standards in English. Suitable for the new curriculum. I hope you found this resource useful as I haven't found anything appropriate for contracted words as yet. I didn't want any more banners and flags in the room. The words are very large but could be made more accessible if photocopied on to A3.

Year 2 Maths - Symmetry This is a fabulous bundle of resources to teach symmetry in Year 2, using 2d regular and irregular shapes. Children first investigate how many lines of symmetry each shape has. They sort them in order one line of symmetry, 2 lines of symmetry or 3 or more lines of symmetry etc. They then move onto reasoning with symmetry in 2d shapes and prove true or false statements such as - do all 4 sided shapes have four lines of symmetry. They show their understanding using APE it- Answer it, prove it and explain it. Following that, children sort shapes into a carrol diagram with given criteria to show a secure understanding of symmetry. The powerpoint have several examples to embed learning with shapes and how to find line of symmetry. Children working below the expected level can find and sort into symmetrical and asymmetrical objects. 3 days of detailed planning and visual materials- support EAL and SEn learners. Year 2 Maths - Numebr with a focus on Division Learning to divide and share . children solve dividing equally by 2,5, 3, 4, and 10. They use the step count method to help them solve the missing number. This strategy relies on children being good at counting in steps of the above numbers mentioned. They understand how to solve division quickly using this method and can move onto applying it to division with remainders. The powerpoint has clear explanations as to how this method can be used. Very useful in a year 2 setting for all abilities. Children working at greater depth show their reasoning by using the inverse. An excellent resource to show challenge for all.

Year 1 and 2 SPAG. The all important suffix endings display for the grammar washing line in the classroom. This is a very eye-catching and visual way to display all the suffixes that the children need to be able to spell and use accurately in their writing to secure working at the expected standard. The suffixes are written in bubble writing and have the common suffix ending words written inside them. They will make an excellent and immediate display. It is suitable for classes from year 1 to year 3. It currently stands proudly on display in all our KS1 class rooms. Year 2 Division. This is a bundle of resources to teach division with missing numbers. It is suitable after children are secure at step counting to divide or after sharing equally into groups. Once they are secure, they can solve missing numbers. They should use step count to solve the missing number for division or the inverse of multiplication depending on where the missing number is placed. The next step function machine is an excellent plenary to solve another missing number that is presented differently. It is excellent for children working at greater depth. Year 2 tell the time by showing where the hour hand and the minutes hands. Children need to be confident in telling the time before they use this activity. They must understand that the hour hand is the small hand and the long hand is the minutes hand. The resource will enable them to count in fives around the clock and understand how to calculate for example 20 minutes past 9. A differentiated resource for all children to reach the expected standards (S) in maths for the new curriculum.

Year 2 Telling the time to the hour, half past, quarter past and quarter to. Children are encouraged to understand what each hand on the clock represents. They move onto telling the time an hour later, hour before, half an later and half an hour before. They look at word problems related to time and work out for example which clock is showing the time one hour after 10.30. They tick the clock that is showing a time in between 3 o’clock and 4 o’clock (e.g a clock face showing 3:15). The work on here is suitable for children working at the expected standard in Maths for year 2. The word problems have challenges for all ability groups including questions to challenge children working at greater depth.

Poetry for Year 2 focussing on grammar features including varied sentence types. Children can use visuals to support their learning to develop language to describe Christmas imagery. They then use the words to create a structured poem with a statement, exclamatory sentence with How…, a question, command and finally a statement that contains a simile. This will create a great opportunity for children to engage with poetry, learn, perform and enjoy. The lesson matches the demands of the new English curriculum for 2014 for written and spoken language. Although this is a seasonal poem, it can be used as a starting to point to change and innovate to any topic of choice. The structure would still apply to any chosen subject e.g. animals or seasons. Year 2 English Grammar Expectations within writing An excellent classroom Grammar display for pupils to access throughout their lessons in English. Can be used on teacher’s working wall or on the washing line. The resource supports learning grammar terminology and gives clear examples about the meaning of terminology. There are also examples given in context e.g how to use co-ordinating conjunctions in a sentence that has two independent clauses. Ideally each page should be blown up to A3 size so it is visible to all children. It can also be reduced to have a set on each table for the children to have easy access to. The grammar washing line supports children to edit and evaluate their own work which is part of the standards.

SPAG Rainbow Writing Code supports the Year 2 Grammar Washing Line. Please see the shop. The code is to support children to edit their writing using the same colour each time. They locate each grammar feature in a given exemplar text and use colour pencils to identify them and/or underline them. Over the year the children can self assess and peer assess using this rainbow grammar code. Eventually, by the end of the year, the aim is for the children to be able to identify all the writing grammar features in their own writing or up level it and edit if they haven’t. VCHOP stands for Vocabulary, Conjunctions, Handwriting, Openers and Punctuation. This resources supports the new National Curriculum for 2014 English Writing objectives.

A fun and enjoyable Pirate assembly for ks1 and easily adaptable for ks2. Its about two siblings who don’t get along but find themselves stuck on a pirate ship. They must learn to overcome their rivalry and learn how to speak like a pirate to avoid being fed to the sharks. This is a fun assembly with songs and dance and YouTube links with relevant dances and music. Performed by a year 2 class successfully for an end of year production. It includes drama, action and fun dialogue to be spoken as pirates. There is detail about cast and how to designate parts. It is suitable for up to 30 children.

Activities suitable for Year 2 and Year 3. Grammar features to suit the new curriculum have been included such as using expanded noun phrases, suffix endings- ier, subordinating conjunction 'if'. This is a 31 page powerpoint with lots of ideas about how to write a poem, character description, use grammar features and include cross curricular links like Art. There are good examples given for each activity and differentiation has been explicitly shown for LA and SEN to access the poem and grammar sentence level work. A fun and interesting activity to consolidate adding three numbers including one 2 digit number. Children should have secure prior knowledge of adding mentally using different strategies such as doubling or counting in different steps. The task can be easily differentiated for all abilities. It offers good opportunity for teachers to facilitate the learning whilst watching how children apply learnt skills. They should be encouraged to be resilient, use trial and error and work systematically to find more than one answer. They should demonstrate reasoning skills by explain e.g how they made the total 29 using two shapes only with a value of 5 and 12. This make AFL easier for the teacher. A highly recommended task.

2d shapes Exploring properties of shape with a fun shadow making activity. Children can learn about the properties of regular, simple 2d shapes as well being extended to naming and creating new irregular shapes. The powerpoint demonstrates how to uses torches to create shadow shapes, and differentiated activities allow for children to sort shapes, into different types of tables (e.g carol diagrams and ven diagrams). Relevant questions suitable for testing reasoning about shape can also be found in the powerpoint.

This is a good resources to assess children's ability to reason with number. They have several statements that they have to prove such as if you multiply odd with odd the answer is always odd. Or if you start on the number 14 and count in multiples of 2 you will land on 35. The children write examples of their working out and prove if the statement is true or false - or sometimes, never, always. This is a good activity for children to show independent working out and demonstrate prior knowledge of odds, evens, counting in steps of 2, 5, 10, 3,4s, etc. Suitable for greater depth children and differentiation is available for those working at or below.

Knowing your times tables is essential for securing maths at the expected standard, in the new maths curriculum. This resources will help you to rote learn the 2,3,4,5,6 and 10 times tables with your class. There are differentiated resources to print so that children can practise every day or weekly. The times tables are visually displayed in columns, grid method and for children to fill in empty boxes. This resource is practical and visual for EAL learners to establish good basics maths to lay the foundation of mental maths in year 2 and 3. Most children will be familiar with the 2, 5, 10 times tables, so they can be challenged to use the grids to find the answers to missing numbers e.g 5 x … = 35. They can also move on to the 3, 4, 6, times tables. Daily practice, chanting and oral rehearsing is advocated for all children to be able to count forwards, backwards, in and out of order. Using inverse is also recommended to find the missing blanks on the grid. Suitable for the new maths curriculum.

Year 2 open ended challenge. Can also be used for Year 1 HAPs children to show application of number bonds to 20. Good group work activity and allows for children to demonstrate their reasoning skills. Teachers will be able to use AFL during the activity to see which children are confident with their bonds to 10,20 and 50. Can be easily differentiated by using counters for less confident children and changing some of the rules, e.g you can use any number more than once. Great for group work or individual assessment task. Encourages working systematically and talking about maths to show thinking.

Year 2 working at greater depth and mastery level. This challenge is suitable for HAPS to challenge them to record in tables( by creating their own) and think about how to work systematically. It challenges them to begin looking for patterns and write a simple formula to estimate the 10th number. This is an excellent, engaging and fun way to see children working at greater depth level and how they apply their skill of reasoning. The challenge asks children to make a straw house and then estimate how many are needed for a street of 10. They are extended to look at rockets and create their own straw challenge for others to complete. Great team building exercise. Can also be used with children working within the expected level if, practical straws are provided alongside a table template.
