This lesson introduces students to unusual but powerful writing techniques to make their stories more engaging and expressive. Students will learn and practice:

Anadiplosis – repeating the last word of a sentence at the start of the next.

Anaphora and Epiphora – repeating words at the beginning or end of sentences for emphasis.

Parenthetical Statements – adding extra information in brackets or commas.

Metonymy – using a related word to represent something (e.g., “the crown” for royalty).

Synecdoche – using a part to represent the whole (e.g., “all hands on deck”).

Polysyndeton and Asyndeton – deliberately using many conjunctions or none for effect.

Hypophora – asking a question and immediately answering it.

Students will explore examples from literature, experiment with these techniques in their own writing, and revise their work to make their stories more vivid and memorable.
