This resource explores the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Pupils also explore oxygen debt.

This resources is aimed at A-C grade students including high ability KS3 pupils.

Pupils undertake simple activities to help them to write equations for aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Pupils then use their knowledge to write equations for the oxidation of lactic acid.

Complete with exam style questions which require self/peer assessment.

Activity: At the start of the class pupils could raise their non-writing hand above their heads and open and clench their fists for a minute. This mimics the heart beat and produces lactic acid. Pupils arms are tired indicating fatigued muscles, a side effect of lactic acid.
