This is a lesson which scaffolds a student response to the poem 'Climbing my Grandfather' by Andrew Waterhouse for a mid-low ability group.

The lesson includes;
- Differentiated tasks throughout the lesson to stretch and challenge.
- Model Paragraphs for each section of the response.
- A success Criteria for students to relate to.
- Self-Assessment task to monitor own progress.
- Opportunity to up level first response.
- Annotated copy of the poem from the Anthology.

I have found that this builds students confidence in their ability to access and respond to an unseen poem.
