1-Hour Lesson – Fully Interactive – Ready to Teach

Dear Colleague,

Imagine the chaos of the frontier, where law was scarce, gunfights were frequent, and outlaws like Billy the Kid became legendary figures. This lesson explores his life, the environment that shaped him, and his historical significance in the American West.

This lesson is the fifteenth in a unit on the American West. Students will consolidate knowledge on crime in the West, order events from Billy the Kid’s life, and evaluate his importance to US history through interactive tasks.

All lessons in this series follow a consistent structure, supporting coherent learning and helping students track their progress:

LO 1: Revising the factors that ignited crime in the West
LO 2: To order Billy’s life events chronologically
LO 3: To evaluate the importance of Billy the Kid for US history

Learning Features:
Fully assessed tasks with opportunities for feedback
Extension activity for higher-achieving students
Resources provided at the end of the PowerPoint

I have also created Lesson 16 on the Law Enforcers. You might also want to explore my sets on Plains Indians, Settlers and Development of the Plains, Law and Order, or the full unit (24 lessons, 100 hours of planning).
