Character Description KS2 – 10 Creative Writing Worksheets | Years 3–6 English

TES Description

Character Description KS2 – 10 Creative Writing Worksheets | Descriptive Writing, Comparison & Viewpoint

A colourful and highly structured set of 10 KS2 character description worksheets, designed to help pupils develop confidence with descriptive writing, characterisation, vocabulary and extended writing.

This resource is suitable for ages 7–11 / KS2 English and can be used across Years 3–6 depending on pupil ability. TES currently lists the pack as an English unit of work, containing 10 individual PNG worksheets, and identifies it as SEN friendly.

The worksheets guide pupils through different aspects of character writing, helping them think carefully about appearance, personality, actions, emotions and the impression a character creates for the reader.

Each sheet uses a clear, pupil-friendly structure with thinking questions, key vocabulary, sentence starters, planning prompts, writing guidance, success criteria, word banks and challenge activities.

For example, pupils are supported to describe a character’s hair and face, clothing, body, special features, personality and behaviour, while using ambitious vocabulary and varied sentence structures.

The pack also moves beyond basic character description. One worksheet asks pupils to compare two characters, considering similarities and differences in their appearance, personality, actions and emotions, while using comparative vocabulary such as similar, different, unlike, whereas, and however.

Another activity, “Hero or Villain?”, encourages pupils to use description deliberately to shape the reader’s opinion of a character. Children consider appearance, actions, emotions and word choices to create either a heroic or villainous impression.
