There are four sheets of addition problems for Year 3, differentiated into ‘easy’, ‘medium’, ‘hard’ and ‘very hard’ standards. All the problems require 2-digit to 2-digit addition, with the complexity of problems becoming gradually harder through each level.

The answers on the ‘easy’ sheet are all below 100 and no carrying is involved. Most of the questions on the ‘medium’ sheet require carrying, but all the answers are below 100. The ‘hard’ sheet includes questions that require carrying into the hundreds column and some addition of three 2-digit numbers. The wording on the ‘very hard’ sheet is more complex and some of the questions involve two steps to work out.

These problems are useful in the early stages of teaching addition in the Autumn Term, although they can certainly be used as a revision / assessment aid at any time during the year.
