A complete unit of English work for Year 3 pupils, based on the fiction book ‘Storm’. The 14 lessons in this unit use creative activities and discussion to help pupils engage imaginatively with the text. Pupils will develop their spelling, punctuation and grammar skills, with a focus on opportunities for pupils to develop their vocabulary. The aim of the unit is to develop pupil’s story writing skills, providing them with the opportunity to write and edit their own story with a focus on the setting/s. Sessions are differentiated to suit a range of pupil abilities, however, feel free to adapt to your class.

The English objectives covered in this unit are:

• To explore characters in a text
• To create a character profile
• To draw and describe a visual image
• To describe a setting
• To understand how to use and punctuate direct speech
