Fantasy Creative Writing Unit - 17 Lessons (Year 7)

This 17-lesson fantasy creative writing unit is targeted at Year 7. This is an engaging unit where pupils design a hero, villain and world map. After this, they take their hero on a quest which they write up in stages. Each writing stage has a key skill focus (e.g. show, don’t tell). Also, pupils can earn coins by using key skills which can then be spent in fantasy shops to purchase equipment for their hero!

Here is an overview of the lessons included:

1 = Introduction to the fantasy genre and story planning
2-12 = Quest writing in stages and a final assessment
13-17 = Extracts and writing tasks from The Hobbit, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Harry Potter.
