Friction Matching Activity
Children need to match the pictures of activities to the best surface.
Designed for Year 3 but could be used with other year groups
Answers:
Ice-rink = Ice-skating
Wooden floor = Rolling a ball / Sliding a box on the floor
Carpet = Pets running indoors
Concrete = Stopping a bicycle
Rubber track = Running a race
Snow = Skiing
Smooth metal = Sliding on a slide
Rocky path = Climbing uphill
Road = Driving a car
Gym mat = Yoga
Grass = Playing football
Marble floor = Rolling a ball / Sliding a box on the floor
Could be other possible answers and chances to discuss the worst surface for each one too. This activity can be extended by getting children to label whether each surface has high friction / low friction or by asking children to explain why it is the best surface.
