GCSE English Literature Paper 2 Modern Text. Year 10 & / or Year 11.

These resources have been developed after dividing the play into 9 separate sections, primarily focusing on each main character. Where page references are used, these resources are designed to be used in conjunction with the Penguin Modern Classics edition of the play, although they are easily adapted to be used with other editions.

The resources include:

• A glossary for cultural or historical references in the text.

• A booklet for students to record accurate and relevant notes, in order to create an accessible revision resource. The booklet can be used by students whilst they are reading the play or to summarise their notes as part of their revision process. The booklet allows students to record: the text’s plot (as a storyboard with captions); two key quotes per section (the quotes can also be labelled with the writer’s methods); the key theme(s) for each section; create a title for each section; track the play’s tension in the form of a tension graph (also this can be labelled with structural features); acrostic-style notes to summarise the presentation of the key characters & how the audience would respond; important context comments.

• A wide range of key quotes & plot comprehension low stakes quizzes (in paper & PowerPoint format) for each of the play’s 9 ‘sections’ & accompanying resources.

• A whole-text plot summary cloze activity.

• A whole text timeline activity, complete with event descriptions & images.

These resources can be used to support the teaching of the text or over a shorter sequence of lessons geared towards revision in preparation for assessments in Year 10 or Year 11.
