As part of our fairy tales unit we read Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. Having ordered many fairy tale books for the unit that didn't live up to expectations, I highly recommend the Goldilocks version by Amanda Askew as the pictures are lovely and the text easy-to-follow.

First we made and sampled our own porridge (Creative Development). Then we wrote our own recipe's for porridge. The plan is differentiated as far as how much detail is expected and although the writing portion took 2 sessions per group my class did such an amazing job with their recipes and I was so proud of them!

Included:
Plan for making porridge
Recipe for making porridge
Literacy lesson plan - writing a recipe
Porridge-making word mat
Literacy lesson plan - retelling the story using paper props

I had my students colour and cut their paper props as a completely independent activity, then I laminated and fixed them to Popsicle sticks. They were adorable retelling the story with their puppets!

I printed the paper props from here:
