PowerPoint for 20 Guided Reading lessons based on the book, ‘Bone Talk’ by Candy Gourlay.

Bone Talk is a high quality text, shortlisted for the Costa book award.

Originally created for a reading intervention for year 8 students but would work for a whole class.

Focuses on vocabulary and reading comprehension improvement.

Each lesson follows the same structure:
Introduction to new words that appear in the chapter.
Frayer Model for new words
Make flash card for new word
Read Chapter as a group
Quiz style retrieval questions based on the chapter read
Read next chapter as a group
1 or 2 more in depth questions focusing on a particular reading strand (Inference, Prediction, Explanation, Retrieval, Summarising)

Lessons designed to last about an hour
You will need a copy of the text to complete these lessons.

Tried and tested intervention that has proved to be highly effective in improving reading levels for students.
