Holes: Louis Sachar. Planning and resources for guided reading. This word document contains 15 lessons and is all you will need to teach a term of reading to Year 5 and 6. I have used this unit primarily for reading lessons but it does contain some writing opportunities. Most challenges follow the RIC structure (Retrieval, Interpretation, Choice) and they are labelled as Hot, Hotter or BYSO (Blow your socks off) to allow the children to choose/be assigned an appropriate level of difficulty.
