This Year 4/5 resource explains the significance of Alfred the Great's achievements. The group task is best done in partners. In this activity, children place statements about Alfred's life on a sliding scale, deciding which are the greatest of his achievements. This resource is then differentiated three ways for independent work. Using statements, children need to write about how important his achievements were.
You are to arrange the statements in order of greatness in your book. Next to each statement write how 'great' you think this part of Alfred's life was and why.

You are to write a report on what made Alfred 'Great'. Use subordinating conjunctions and connectives to link your writing.
