Suitable for KS2 and KS3 this drama resource is good for small groups getting to grips with the lyrics of classic Beatles’ song lyrics. Many of them tell stories which can be acted out and elaborated upon. Eg Maxwell’s Silver Hammer, Obla di obla da, Penny Lane, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, A Day in the Life, Eleanor Rigby, Being for the benefit of Mr Kite, Yellow Submarine, Octopus’ Garden, etc. I used this idea with a group of adults with learning disabilities and there was so much scope for characterisation and improvisation. This could be done over several sessions. Ours culminated in a Beatles’ Day with performances before an invited audience.
The resource itself is a worksheet that can be given to each group to fill in once they have chosen which song lyric is going to be their starting point for an improvisation.
