These engaging Initial Sound Activity Sheets focus on the sounds e, u, r, h, b, f, l. Each activity helps children learn to hear, recognise, and identify initial sounds. They will begin to read the focus letter, and practice simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words. Children can also go on a sound hunt to find and record objects that begin with the target sound.

There are four activities for each sound.
Activity 1 - Introduces the sound and shows letter formation for the upper and lowercase.
Activity 2 - Children say the sound and trace the letter with their finger.
Children spot the sound by recognising the lower case letter. They can circle the sound or colour it in.
Children attempt to read the CVC words with support from the images.
Activity 3 - Look at the images and think of the initial sounds. Circle the pictures that start with the initial sound being taught e.g. nest, note, nose, noodles and night.
Activity 4 - Children take part in a sound hunt. In their learning environment, they looks for objects that have the target initial sound. They can draw a picture of the objects found or attempt to spell the words.
