Kids love bugs! With this unit they will learn what makes an insect an insect (three body parts, six legs, etc.) and will compare them to non-insects. A reproducible insect cover is included that, when stapled to blank paper and cut out, makes a great writing book for all kinds of stories or reports. The unit also includes page after page of reproducible flash cards featuring pictures and vocabulary words, along with a list of exciting games and activities you can do with the cards. A mini-reading book features the story “The Sad Caterpillar” which deals with a caterpillar with some low self-esteem who realizes at the end of the story that she was always a beautiful butterfly inside. The text can be adapted for any grade level, or even covered up to allow the students to create their own story based on the pictures!

The students can dress up as ladybugs by making their very own costumed wings! (Order our Butterfly Unit to make butterfly wings too!) This unit also includes the script for the play “The Ant and the Grasshopper” as well as the patterns for the paper bag puppets in the story! Students will learn to sing “I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly” with the delightful manipulatives that they can make and take home. There is also a centipede numberline and “super-sized” stationery in the form of a giant ant!

This book includes many other exciting activities and concludes with two end-of-the-unit certificates: one to send home and one for the classroom “Wall of Fame.” All pages are available as black and white student reproducibles as well as full color teacher samples.
