KS2 Tudors Reading Fluency Intervention | 4 Levels | Ready-to-teach

A complete 6-week KS2 reading fluency programme with four different starting points — so pupils can work on the same Tudor history content at the right level of reading challenge. Designed for pupils who can decode but still read slowly, word-by-word or without natural phrasing, and for pupils who struggle when sentences become longer or more complex. The bundle is particularly useful when your target children include pupils with very different reading needs. Instead of expecting every child to access the same text, you can select the most appropriate starting point while keeping everyone within the same curriculum topic. 3 × 15-minute sessions a week • 6 weeks • ready-to-teach Each level includes the PowerPoint teaching slides, printable pupil pack, adult guidance and pre- and post-assessment. Simply choose the appropriate level, print the pupil booklet and teach from the slides. What does the intervention teach? The sessions explicitly develop the skills that can prevent pupils from becoming fluent readers: • decoding unfamiliar and multisyllabic words • reading in meaningful phrases • using punctuation to support phrasing and expression • understanding increasingly complex sentence structures • building vocabulary and Tudor curriculum knowledge • applying fluent reading to unfamiliar text Each week follows a consistent routine: Decode It → Phrase It → Extend It → Build It → Perform It Children receive plenty of modelling and supported practice before gradually applying their learning more independently. Four starting points Starter Step For pupils not yet confidently accessing Year 3 reading material, including children who have recently completed a phonics programme or still need some phonics support. Texts use short sentences and mainly one- and two-syllable words. Step 1 For developing readers ready to build fluency with simple sentences, common vocabulary, conjunctions and basic sentence expansion. Step 2 For pupils becoming more fluent with straightforward text but who need support reading longer sentences containing coordination and subordination. Step 3 For pupils who can read Year 4-level text with some confidence, or Year 5-level text with effort, but need support managing more sophisticated vocabulary and complex sentence structures including relative clauses and parenthesis. This makes it possible to run targeted fluency support across a mixed-attainment group without giving struggling readers content that feels too young for them.
