“Making Music is about students developing their own skills, broadening their understanding of the music that is around them and how they themselves can create music in a practical and fun way”.

This resource package is a Key Stage 3 Music scheme of work that aims to provide the teacher with a solid base to work from. Each module aims to provide appropriate levels of progression and flexibility, with clear, pertinent and achievable tasks that can be adapted to any situation or student need.

There are 9 booklets included in this package, with over 200 worksheets, consisting of:

Year 7 - Module 1 - Rhythmic Patterns
Year 7 - Module 2 - Melody in Music
Year 7 - Module 3 - 12-Bar Blues
Year 8 - Module 4 - Indian Music
Year 8 - Module 5 - Skills in Music
Year 8 - Module 6 - Background Music
Year 9 - Module 7 - Song Writing
Year 7-9 - Listen & Identify 1
Year 7-9 - Listen & Identify 2

Homework tasks, listening tasks with supporting YouTube playlists, and student self-assessment are built into each module of work. These help to develop, support and consolidate student knowledge and understanding of the concepts covered in each module, as well as develop student confidence and ability to express themselves, their views, and opinions through verbal and non-verbal forms of communication.

A teacher overview supporting document ‘KS3 Music Module Outlines_Y7-9’ provides a clear breakdown of the content and objectives of each module, the assessment criteria and learning outcomes for a ‘Life After Levels’ assessment model, a breakdown of the YouTube playlists with recommended listening material and weblinks to useful resources and sites.
