This lesson includes:
- A starter task with a discussion element to see if students have moved or relocated. This leads onto the main lesson about the migration of people.
- A teacher-led discussion of what migration is and the difference between immigration and emigration. Students write down the definitions. The teacher can then introduce that our topic is about the migration of different groups to Britain over time.
- A task to consider push vs pull reasons for people migrating. Students make lists on their whiteboards of reasons people may leave a country to move to another.
- A main task to consider 4 characters and why they have come to Britain. Students place them on a scale from push to pull, and justify their positioning.
- A plenary to consider the key words from the lesson.
