About this spreadsheet

A ready-to-use Excel workbook that makes requesting practicals and demos with your technicians seamless. Teachers pick a practical from a drop-down list, enter the date, period, room and number of groups, and the workbook works out every item of equipment needed. It has no macros: it uses ordinary Excel formulas.

What is inside

• A catalogue of 135 practicals, teacher demos and class activities across Years 7 and 8, with 833 kit lines and quantities
• Request sheet: one row per booking, up to 1,000 bookings per workbook, with a Check column that flags mistakes
• Kit list: every item for every booking, with date, room and class, to print for the technician
• Totals: the kit added up across all bookings, for ordering and stock checks
• Prep notes: prep instructions, safety, and references to CLEAPSS Hazcards and CLEAPSS Student Safety Sheets for each practical booked

Matches the lessons

Each practical has a kit code (for example B11-L3-P1) that matches the hidden Equipment Request slide in the Dr T’s Classroom KS3 lesson PowerPoints and the free Scheme of Work. The series follows Activate 1 and 2 and keeps the Activate topic codes. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Oxford University Press or CLEAPSS. You can use it with any KS3 scheme: just pick the practical you are teaching.

Good to know

Quantities and hazard references are a guide: check them against your own risk assessment and the current CLEAPSS Hazcards, and follow CLEAPSS guidance for hazardous chemicals and equipment. Sheets are protected against accidental changes with no password, so you can unprotect them if you need to adapt the workbook.
