This lesson is fully resourced to help students understand the role of phagocytosis in a non-specific immune response. Students will be able to describe events of phagocytosis which will help them explain the importance of an antigen presenting cell for specific immunity (look for L3. T-lymphocyte and cell meditated immunity)

Students will start the lesson with an interactive and enjoyable starter game to help the teacher gauge students’ prior knowledge. This starter is intended to be a great starter at the beginning of a chapter/unit to further probe students’ foreknowledge.

This lesson includes:

  • Choice student led activity – Students can either annotate a labelled diagram of phagocytosis or create a comic strip to outline the events in phagocytosis
  • Past exam questions to assess students understanding

Estimated time: Should take 1 hour of teaching time for A-level students
