Ananlysis of Lady Macbeth’s sleepwalking scene

The ‘sleepwalking scene’ is written principally in prose. In this scene we see a guilt wracked Lady Macbeth. This is in stark contrast to how she has appeared in previous scenes. The portrayal of her now is barely reconcilable with the character previously introduced to us. She is now a pitiful sight and a shadow of her former self that called upon evil spirits to possess her; asked to be devoid of all femininity and put into our minds the horrific and inhumane image of her ‘dashing out the brains’ of her own infant child.
