A resource for class or peripatetic teachers in primary education to assist in music reading education.
The ‘Intermediate’ is a continuation of the ‘Beginner’ level from our shop.
Both the Beginner & Intermediate Methods are intended as a gentle and gradual introduction to music reading.
The Bass Guitar Method is a complimentary resource for class/school orchestras to allow a bassist to accompany the guitarists.
Both are aimed at left-handed players.

You will get two PDF booklets:

  • Guitar Tabs & Chord Charts
  • Bass Guitar Tabs

THE METHOD
The method consists of 12 lessons which are essentially 8-bar music exercises.
Continuing from the 4 notes (G-A-B-C) and other symbols from the ‘Beginner’, this level introduces more note/rest lengths and other musical symbols.
The lessons are named after the topic they cover. All lessons/topics are listed below.
The notations are formatted in landscape orientation for use on electronic devices or printing.

FOR WHOM?
This method is for students who have completed the Beginner level. It may be used as a stand-alone at your discretion.

TABLATURES (MELODY)
The formatting of the notation follows the ‘Beginner’ level, with standard guitar tablature and note names below the tablature staff.

Lesson names / topics covered

  1. Da Capo (D note; D7 chord)
  2. Dal Segno (D.S.)
  3. D.C. al Fine
  4. Volta Brackets (E note)
  5. Whole Note (F & G7 chords)
  6. 6/8 Time Signature
  7. Tie (high G note; E7 & A7 chords)
  8. Shuffle (repeat bars symbol; C7 chord)
  9. Whole Rest
  10. Dotted Half Rest (note B)
  11. Eighth Rest
  12. Sixteenth Note (note repeats)

CHORD CHARTS & STRUMMING
Under the tablature staff, chord strums are presented with standard strumming symbols for guitar/ukulele, with up/downstrum signs on top of each strumming note for the first couple of bars.
Chord names are given above the strumming staff.
When new chords are introduced, they are marked in the subtitle of the appropriate lesson.

THE BASS GUITAR BOOKLET
This is an optional resource that could be used either for an individual student on its own or as a member of a guitar ensemble. It provides very easy bass guitar parts for the tunes used in the guitar booklet.
While the lesson titles follow the learning of the guitar, any new learning aimed specifically at the bass player is marked in the subtitle of each lesson.
A How To tablature guide is also included.

Besides the topics above (except the note pitches), the bass player will learn:

  1. Playing in positions (no open strings)
  2. Low F note
  3. High F note
  4. Low F♯ note
  5. G ♯ & C♯ notes

OTHER INTERMEDIATE-LEVEL RESOURCES
This resource pack is in the G major scale. Other resources in this series that use the same melodies include Ukulele (in C), C-instrument, Harmonica ©, Recorder (D*) and Ocarina (D*).
/*D - some melodies are modified due to the range and fingering accessibility for beginners./
