Musical Discoveries

A set of six musical sheets designed to cover all aspects of the music curriculum for your class. They can be used for the whole term, with one sheet being completed per lesson, or as a class rotation scheme of work where different groups work on a different sheet before performing their work, or presenting their findings to each other. The lessons are aimed at a KS3 year 7/8 group in the first instance, but could easily be used for KS2.

The six sheets are:

Sheet 1. Guitar tab and notation performance sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to work out and perform three simple tasks on the guitar.

Sheet 2. Percussion and rhythm based performance sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to work out and perform three simple rhythm tasks using a djembe or a class drum.

Sheet 3. Composition task sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to work out and perform their own composition using musical words that could be played on any instrument.

Sheet 4. Music Theory sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to work out and answer basic music notation questions on the sheet.

Sheet 5. Music History sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to research and present a choice of six key composers, to find out about the life they led, and information about their key pieces of music.

Sheet 6. Music Performance sheet.
Students are given the opportunity to work out and perform a piece of music of their own choosing, showing skills that may not always be apparent in a music lesson.
