This resource is a PowerPoint presentation and worksheets that covers the Levels of Organisation (4.7.2.1), and the Trophic Levels (4.7.4.1) information on the 2016 AQA Ecology specification.

The basic structure of the lesson is as follows:

1) Starter- Differentiated question to write out the equation for photosynthesis (Grades 4 to 7)
2) A slide to go through the equation to the highest grade.
3) A gap fill activity- Worksheet provided.
4) Gap fill activity answers provided to go through as a class.
5) A slide to explain what biomass is.
6) A true or false activity about food chains- Worksheet provided.
7) A rearrange the three food chains activity, with linked questions.
8) A key term and definition card sort activity- The card sort template and a worksheet to write their answers on is provided.
9) Three slides all explaining about trophic levels, producers, consumers, herbivores, carnivorous etc, so that the students can self/peer assess their answers to the card sort activity.
10) A differentiated assessment activity- 'Design your own labelled food chain activity' where all of the key words for this topic must be labelled. This activity rages from Grade 3 to 5. There are then 3 graded questions from Grades 6 to 8.
11) A slide with the answers on so that the students can self/peer assess their work.
12) A key facts from the specification slide.
13) A predator-prey graph slide.
14) A differentiated activity where students either use their AQA textbooks (page included) and/or the internet can be used for this activity: "Design your own predator-prey graph and annotate it to describe (level 5) and explain (level 6) the changes".
15) Plenary- Completing the plenary triangle- Worksheet included.
16) Plenary 2- Completing the assessment sheet to see what target they achieved and assess if they achieved their target etc- Worksheet included.
