This is a PowerPoint presentation I have used with years 2 and 3. I used it as an introduction to two lessons on the theme of New Year.
- Facts & photos about New Year in 3 countries around the world (4 slides)
- Facts & photos about the history of New Year Resolutions (2 slides)
- Interspersed with 'talking point' questions to help children reflect on their own ideas about New Year and then plan their own resolution (4 slides)
- Ideal for Y2 and Y3 but easily edited for Y1 or Y4.
How can I use this?
I used the first half to introduce a lesson in which the children planned a New Year celebration, taking their favourite traditions from each culture and explaining why they had chosen them.
The second part gives a brief history of resolutions and leads the children to thinking about their own resolution. I used this to introduce a lesson in which the children's activity was to plan and write their own New Year's resolution.
