Newspapers Talk for Writing English 5 Week Unit – KS2
A 5 - week unit of work based on ‘Tut in Murder Mystery’ Newspaper reports. Used in Year 4 but could easily be adapted for UKS2.
A detailed 5 week unit covering the Imitation, Skills, Innovation and Independent phases of Talk for Writing for the WAGOLL Tut in Murder Mystery.
For each week there are weekly plans, resources (all labelled with what lesson), SNB, images and other resources (I have also included the SmartNotebook notes in Powerpoint format so all can access).
Each day there are starters, inputs, differentiated activities and plenaries in the format of SmartNotebook.
The objectives covered in this unit are:
Organising paragraphs and using subheadings.
Begin to use fronted adverbials.
Identifying and using subordinate clauses
Direct and indirect speech
To edit and evaluate my writing.
Use wide range of conjunctions.
There are 25 lessons included which will last 5 weeks. There are 10 lessons within ‘week 2’ so although it says it is 4 weeks on the resources I can assure you there is enough work for 5 weeks plus! I successfully taught this unit Spring 1 and it took the whole of the half term (6 weeks) as the focus for this half term was ensuring the children’s writing made sense and they used the appropriate word choices and punctuation. Our topic was Ancient Egypt so a lot of the resources link to Egypt. This can easily be adapted.
Any questions, or if you find anything missing, please ask I will be happy to help.
Happy teaching :)
