Non-Chronological Report Writing Unit: The Ancient Greeks (KS2)

Focus: Coordinating Conjunctions and Apostrophes for Singular Possession
Content Areas: Life in Athens, Life in Sparta, The Ancient Gods, Alexander the Great

This KS2 writing unit guides pupils through the process of researching, planning and writing a non-chronological report about key aspects of Ancient Greece. The resource focuses specifically on four core areas of content: Life in Athens, Life in Sparta, The Ancient Gods, and Alexander the Great.

Alongside historical knowledge, the unit teaches pupils how to apply key grammar skills within their writing.

Grammar Focus
Coordinating Conjunctions

Pupils learn to join ideas using coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so). This helps them extend factual sentences, link related details and create smoother, more cohesive paragraphs.

Apostrophes for Singular Possession

Children are taught how to use apostrophes correctly to show ownership (e.g. the soldier’s shield, the god’s temple, the hero’s journey). These are practised at sentence level before being applied in their final report.
