Patterns and Sequences/Transformations
Key Stage: 4 ★★

Can you work out how many colours Charlie needs to make his attractive tablecloths, when they must satisfy different symmetry rules?

Rather than deducing an nth term rule by pattern-spotting, this problem encourages students to look at the structure of several symmetric patterns and to explain how to generate rules for finding the number of colours required.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.
