Straight Line Graphs, Gradients, Parallel Lines
Key Stages: 3 ★

How does the position of a line affect the gradient of the line? What do you notice about the equations of parallel lines?

This resource allows students to explore the connection between a straight line on a graph and the equation that represents or defines it - equations of the form y=mx+c. Students are encouraged to conjecture and test their conjectures.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

An excellent resource for teaching y=mx + c and showing visual what each part means. Pupils can move points around a grid into different places and see how the gradient or y-intercept is affected. Ideal for introducing the topic, or could be used as some sort of consolidation lesson where pupils have to investigate for themselves.
