2D Shapes - Interior Angles, Angles
Key Stage: 3 ★

A semi regular tessellation is a tessellation formed by two different rgular polygons such that each veterx has the same arrangement of polygons around it.

Finding tessellations provides a context for students to practise working out interior angles of polygons and angles around a point, or to introduce these ideas. In order to completely solve the problem, students will need to work systematically, test out ideas and reason carefully.

This resource has comprehensive teachers' notes and resources, linked from the problem page. This includes possible approaches and key questions, as well as possible support and extensions.

This is a lovely interactive applet where students can investigate the different semi-regular tessellations. It would be nice to give them some time in a computer room to have a play around on the applet and then get them to take a more systematic approach by looking at the interior angles of the different shapes. This is for KS3 but it could easily be extended for use at KS4. Thank you for sharing.
