A series of classroom games to practise saying how long something has been hurting using depuis and the present tense.

Bell task - students look at list of units of time in French. Students write units in their books in French and English and some are supported with stick in sheets.

Explain "depuis means since" and that it is used with the present tense in French.

Jeu de Cluedo (whole class) to practise forming sentences using this rule. Guessing game - students put together sentences out loud from a writing frame. If they guess one element correctly they are told, but not which of the elements is the correct answer. Students work collaboratively as a class to guess the sentence, listening to each other to get correct answer. If time, they also play this game out loud in small groups.

Dice writing. Students have dice and a key on the board. They throw the dice three times per sentence to say what is wrong with them. Able students have an additional list of illnesses to draw from. Time limit - aim to write as many sentences as possible in 5mins.

Frog translate - students throw a frog to each other and each person who catches has to translate into English the previous sentence and then offer a sentence of their own.

Give acronyn for spelling of diarrhoea - dining ina rough restaurant, hurry or else accident

Battleships plenary - students hunt for ships on the board by speaking a n illness and a length of time, and translating what they are saying into English.
