Increase and decrease amounts by a percentage using bar models, then multipliers. 16 questions, full answers included.

Worksheet (1 page): the first questions show the amount as a bar split into equal parts with 100% labelled. Extra parts are added for an increase or hatched out for a decrease, so students can see the new amount before they calculate it. The labels then fade to a blank bar for students to split themselves. The page ends with a bike reduced by 15% and then increased by 15% (is it back to the original price?) and choosing the multiplier for a 7% increase.

Further practice (1 page): graded by difficulty, with decimal percentages such as 17.5%, writing the multipliers for increases and decreases, and contexts such as a train ticket, a bottle with extra free, comparing two shop discounts and café sales. It finishes with the misconception that you multiply by 0.3 to decrease an amount by 30%.

Answers to all 16 questions are included as a separate file.

Suitable for GCSE Foundation (AQA R9) and for Key Stage 3 classes working on percentages.
