A hands on resource for checking understanding of the use of full stops, exclamation marks and questions marks and for discussion about the different sorts of sentences.

Directions for use:
Print, cut and laminate the sentences and punctuation mark cards. You will
need a set of the smaller punctuation cards for each student.
You can use these in different ways, but here are suggestions…

Give the sentences out to a group of students. Ask them to sort them into
those which need a full stop, or an exclamation mark, or a question mark.

Read the sentences out one at the time. The students use the ‘show me’ cards to show which punctuation mark they think is needed. I stuck each punctuation mark on to the end of a lollipop stick and the students enjoyed holding these up to show their answers.

Ask the students to write further sentences to put into each group.
